Long-term care homes have received direction and guidance on how to identify potential COVID-19 cases early and implement control measures rapidly to prevent spread within the home. These measures include managing the case and contacts based on an assessment of their exposure risk, using appropriate precautions, and monitoring residents for symptoms. A general visitor is someone who is not designated as an essential caregiver and is visiting to provide non-essential services and/or for social reasons.
The suspect outbreak in a long-term care home is defined as one positive molecular test in a resident, where source of acquisition is thought to be from within the home or cannot be determined. Residents returning from an absence will be required to undergo active screening. All residents are permitted to leave the home for medical and compassionate/palliative absences at any time. Visitors are also required to review the visitor education package provided by the home. You must wait 20 minutes to obtain a negative rapid antigen test result before joining the tour. The Ministry of Long-Term Care works to ensure Ontarians receive access to the quality long-term care they deserve, in a safe, home-like environment when and where they need it.
All staff, students volunteers and essential caregivers who are up-to-date with all recommended COVID-19 vaccine doses must undergo rapid antigen testing administered by the home at least two times per week. Long-term care homes care for people with significant health challenges and cognitive impairment who need 24-hour access to nursing care and supervision. Long-term care homes are also known as Homes for the Aged or Nursing Homes.

Long-term care homes in Ontario are required to prepare a report on the continuous quality improvement initiative for the home for each fiscal year. Our top priority is protecting the health and safety of our residents and staff. In our long-term care homes, we continue to adhere to guidance from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Long-Term Care. A variety of programs are offered each week, providing opportunities to socialize, keep active, learn and have fun. Saturday July 20th was our annual family BBQ and despite it being one of the hottest days of the summer so far, CAMA staff managed to create a cool atmosphere. At Mount Nemo Christian Nursing Home we also depend on our supportive community to donate their time and financial support. Residents are approved for admission by the HNHB Home and Community Care Support Services.

If staff or visitors have symptoms of COVID-19, they are asked to stay home and self-isolate. They are not allowed to enter the home or visit a resident outdoors. Upon arrival, you must perform hand hygiene, undergo active screening and a rapid antigen test administered by the home. These services are located outside of Burlington, but provide service to Burlington.

Essential caregivers and general visitors are not required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter into the long-term care home. Long-term care staff, student placements and volunteers continue to be required to adhere to Halton Region’s staff COVID-19 vaccination policy and Provincial surveillance testing requirements. We are committed to providing the highest quality of individualized care to enhance the lives of our residents.
